About Downtown San Jose

San Jose is a city that is located on the southeastern region of the San Francisco Bay. It is home to over 671,000 people, which makes it the third largest city in California in terms of population. San Jose ranks number 10 on the list of cities in the United States with the largest population. This city's population grew by nearly 20,000 between the years of 2010 and 2012. San Jose was first founded on November 29, 1777. However, it was not incorporated as a city in California until March 27, 1850. Jose' Jauquin Moroga is credited as being the founder of San Jose. The city is named after him. San Jose was the first capital of California.

San Jose has a Mediterranean type climate. This means that it has mild winters and warm summers. The average high temperature in January is 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average temperature in July is 84 degrees Fahrenheit. Rain is not a common occurrence in San Jose, which gives the city somewhat of a dry climate. San Jose has about 300 days of sunshine per year. Snow is an extremely rare occurrence in this city. The last time that this city received a measurable amount of snow was in the January of 1976.

The largest higher education institution in San Jose is San Jose University. It is home to over 31,000 students and offers over 130 degree programs. San Jose University also has over 1600 faculty members. The majority of the faculty members possess a doctorate degree.

Lincoln Law School of San Jose, National University and San Jose City College are other notable colleges in this city. San Jose is also home to a number of private and public primary and secondary schools.

San Jose has a total area of 179.965 square miles. The city has a land area of 176.529 square miles, and the water area totals 3.439 square miles.
